Air filters within a home ventilation system can block airborne particulates that can include, animal dander, pollen, mold spores, bacteria and viruses depending on the Minimum Efficiency Rating Value (MERV) of your air filters. For an air conditioning system it is recommended that you use air filters with MERV Rating between 8 and 13. The higher the rating, the more contaminants that will be blocked
and therefore will result in better protection of the equipment and building occupants.
A/C filters inside your home should be checked and replaced monthly, and all other filters should be checked and replaced every 6 months. A clogged, dirty filter can restrict air flow, causing the system to run longer, as well as other problems. A great reminder to change your filter is when you receive your electric bill each month.
